Headquarters and Launch

Its an exciting season at Remedy!  We are in the process of moving into our new Headquarters at 326 Gill St in Alcoa Tn.  This is going to be a location that we are able to operate out of and reach out to the community.  I always get a little nervous when thinking about us moving into a permanent structure that we will call 'home' for an extended amount of time.  I have see lots of fights and torn relationships over a building that many people would call a church.  May I take a moment and ask you to never, ever, ever call 326 Gill St 'church'.  It is not a church, it will never be a church.  It is not a 'house of God'.  It is not a 'temple'.  It is a building.  We are the church, we are where God's Spirit calls home in this world.  A building cannot love, serve, die, or dream.  But a building can kill if we let it.  Our terminology is important.  Our language shapes our culture.  So why do I call it Headquarters?  Because we are in a war for the life of Blount Co. and this location while it does not define us it will aid us in this battle.  It is a weapon in our arsenal along with the greater weapons of love, sacrifice, service, joyfullness and the like.  The word 'headquarters' designates a location.  The word 'church' desigates a people.  So, at the risk of beating a dead horse, we are the church, 326 Gill St is our headquarters... let us not get the two confused.

That being said, it is exciting to see the progress that has happened so far at HQ.  The worship and childrens areas are coming together nicely.  It is my dream to see us squeeze every bit of potential out of this location and leverage it to see people who are far from God come close to Him.   One of the things I am most excited about is how 'unchurchy' this place is gonna look.  From the sidewalk outside to the bathrooms inside I want it to scream 'THIS IS FOR YOU BLOUNT COUNTY!  THIS IS FOR YOU WHO HAVE BEEN BURNT OUT OF CHURCH, GIVEN UP ON GOD, FOUND YOURSELF WITHOUT HOPE AND LONGING FOR A PLACE TO BE KNOWN AND BELONG!'

We are planning to launch on August 29.  We are kicking off the Launch with some exciting things.  On the day of the launch we will be having a block party on site.  We will also be starting a new series that I am completely pumped about (I don't wanna give it away quite yet).  In a few weeks you will be seeing billboards around town to introduce the new location and series and launch date.  The week of our launch we are going to be hosting a free lunch for all the businesses around the location to let them know that we are here for them.  In this season we need as much help as we can possibly get.  If you can paint, hammer, clean, serve food, greet, man a bounce house, etc then please let me know.  If I don't see your name listed as doing some sort of job during this season then expect a call :)

So without further adieu here are some pics of the new place and the progress we are making:

ONEprayer Fasting and Prayer calendar

OK Remedy, so you may have checked out the calendar on 2010.oneprayer.com  well we are starting a little late and I thought it would be helpful to have a calendar that goes more along the lines of what we will be doing.  Now as you follow this calendar please set aside every Tuesday to fast as you pray.  You may choose to skip all three meals during the day or just a meal, but whatever you do set aside that time you would normally be eating to pray.  As we walk together with one another, reading the same scripture, praying with the same emphasis, and fasting in together we allow our church to be used greater for God's kingdom.
Week 1
This Tuesday's Fast topic:  Unity during ONEprayer

June 17th - June 25th
One Prayer - united in action: What do you think God could accomplish through a unified church? One Prayer has been spreading the Gospel, helping new churches take root, and seeing countless lives change. When we’re fasting today, let’s focus on this year’s Giving initiative—catching up on what’s been happening, learning about this year’s plan, and preparing for what God wants to do through us.

ONEprayer is Coming!

What would happen if thousands of churches around the globe from different denominations and backgrounds set aside those differences and focused on the call of God that we hold in common?  Well, tada... ONEprayer!  ONEprayer is an effort of over 1200 churches to actively seek unity in the body of Christ and change the world by doing so.  In John 17 we get a glimpse into the heart of Jesus when He prays to the Father that His followers would become ONE so that the world would know His love.  Incredible isn't it?  We have become so fragmented on so many levels in the modern church, and consequently the world does not recognize us for exuding the love of God.  So lets focus on our common goal - to see this world reconciled to God through Christ - and see if Jesus' prayerful promise is true.

Join us beginning June 20, as we hear from speakers from other traditions around the US and the world as we seek to unite!  Imagine what would happen if churches everywhere came together... we would be Unstoppable!

You can join the ONEprayer community on Facebook HERE.  You can also use this calendar as we read through the scriptures together and pray as ONE.

Don't Hit Snooze

Alright here's the deal Remedy, in American Christendom summer is a time to hit snooze and lean back in the Christian lazy chair (as if that weren't an oxymoron!). But Summer at Remedy is where we kick it into gear and pull out all the stops. So go on vacation or whatever you have to do this summer, but the rest of the time get ready to serve the Hell out of our community. Starting this week we will be offering free oil changes for single moms at Rockford Elementary. We will be starting at 10am so come join us and if you're like me you might learn a thing or two about cars!

This July we will offering free one day pool passes to everyone who comes to Remedy. Springbrook pool is in our backyard and we figured, heck why not? And besides that you will miss the most dangerous part of the day, regarding SPF's. So be inviting all your chlorine-loving friends for a free day at the pool (not just for kids!). We will also be joining with 1207 other churches for ONEprayer. We will hear from speakers around the world as we pray and work together for the unity of the Church. On July 3rd and August 7 join us for a free outdoor movie night in Alcoa (location TBA).

Also in July we will be offering another free ice cream drive (Stay tuned for more details). Then as summer winds down we will be doing home repair projects in Alcoa along with other outreach events.

Lifegroups are still going strong and growing and as always Sundays will be rockin! So if you've missed all the pie-in-the-face, silly string, box-bashing, duck hunt madness over the last few weeks then jump in this Sunday because we are just getting this party started!

Transformed Lives Transforming the World... can't think of a better way to spend the summer!

Light up the dark,
Jeremy
